The First International Forum on Law and Finance was held in Shanghai on May 25, 2019. The forum, with the theme of fostering a law-based business environment and improving financial adjudication and investor protection, was organized by Shanghai Financial Court (SFC) and China Academy of Financial Research of Shanghai Jiao Tong University(CAFR).Liu Xinhua, vice chairman of the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee of the NPC, Sha Hailin, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress, Liu Xiaoyun, president of the Shanghai High People’s Court, Jiang Sixian, secretary of the party committee of Shanghai Jiao Tong University delivered speeches respectively. Zhao Hong, president of the SFC presided over the forum and gave a welcoming speech.
Lin Wenxue, director of Second Civil Division of the Supreme People’s Court (SPC) addressed on fostering an enabling business environment from the latest judicial perspective. Cheng Hehong, director of the Department of Legal Affairs of China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) focused on laws and regulations applied in science and technology innovation board and the registration-based IPO system. Aedit Abdullah, senior justice of the High Court of Singapore highlighted the importance of challenges existing in law and finance. Stephen P.Harbeck, the former president and CEO of the Securities Investor Protection Corporation expounded investors’ claims under Securities Investor Protection Act. Mao Ronghua, vice president of the Shanghai High People’s Court put forward the improvement of financial adjudication system and pattern. Guo Feng, deputy director of Research Office of SPC, Guo Wenying, president of China Securities Investor Services Center, Paul Yuen, managing director of legal department of Monetary Authority of Singapore, Dan Guttman, visiting professor of NYU Shanghai, Ye Lin, professor of Renmin University of China, Tang Xin, professor of Tsinghua University, Xu Duoqi, professor of Fudan University, and Lin Xiaonie and Xiao Kai, vice presidents of SFC discussed how to streamline financial adjudication system, protect investors and identify civil liability for tort. Yan Hong, professor of Finance at Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance and Deputy Director of CAFR delivered a closing speech.
Some 180 participants including foreign experts devoted to investor protection, representatives from CSRC, Shanghai Stock Exchange, China Financial Futures Exchange, Shanghai Futures Exchange, experts and scholars from well-known universities in China and judges from the SPC and Shanghai courts attended the forum.
